What do i do?
[info]javafrost
so here i am, lying on my bed. Writing this entry from my mobile. With dozen or more things swirling in my mind. And i got this one question (that leads to another...and another) : what do i do? What exactly do i do in my life? Oh well, i have absolutely no idea whatsoever. It's like i'm living a routine, and i don't even know whether it's a good routine or a bloody boring one. It's not like i have experienced something life-altering, but hey...i feel like i'm meant for something. Is it wrong to feel like you're meant to be, to do something bigger than the one you're already are and do? i don't know. Maybe not all of us are destined to be all grand and mighty. But you'll always have that hope, right? One to make us feel slightly better in the morning before jumping in to our daily routine. Even when you're now like me. Lying in the bed. With all lights on, looking at the ceilling, contemplating life. And trying so damn hard not to start questioning life. Thankfully, my amazing mind starts to take over: You only live once. Why wasting your life asking things when you can actually have the answers by living your life? Though once in a while,you'd go back to that 360. It's okay...life IS a circle. Okay. Done with tonight's rambling.

Allvoices.com - Lets talk Turkey!

It is all about pipeline according to the writer. Russia want Iran gas and so Turkey does. US also want Iran gas too and United States asked for some part of gas.

US need Turkish to support their troops in Afghanistan but Turkey does not want to add more troops. Turkey also unsatisfied for US that let the Kurdish Iraq rebel.

Another brilliant announcement from your friends at the CDC.

My code solution.
[info]meesto
The following is my code which appears to work without problems in my test directory. I'll try it with 5 or 6 zip archives tomorrow before I let it loose on the live data. The script needs to be run at the same level as all of the zip archives so that I don't end up with subdirectories being encoded into the recursive paths that are zipped up. It's not pretty (the rm calls tend to produce warnings if there is nothing to delete), but it seems to be working OK.

#!/bin/bash

# init
function pause(){
     read -p "$*"
}

dir1="__temp"

if [ -e "$dir1/" ]
then
  echo "$dir1/ exists."
else
  mkdir $dir1/
  echo "Created $dir1/."
fi
pause 'Press RETURN to continue...'

for f in *.zip
do
  if [ -e "$f" ]; then
    echo "Processing $f file..."
    unzip $f -d  $dir1
    z=0
    for x in $dir1/._*
    do
      echo $x
      let "z = 1"
    done
    if [ "$z"==1 ]; then
      echo "Deleting .mac files."
      rm $dir1/._*
      cd $dir1
      zip -r $f *.*
      mv $f ..
      cd ..
    fi
   rm $dir1/*
   rm -R $dir1/*
    pause 'Press RETURN to continue...'
  else
    echo "No files to process."
  fi
done

echo "All finished."

American start the attack to South Afghanistan
[info]anote77
With 1,000 Troops, US forces attack South Afghanistan. This is the firs attack since Obama has announced to deploy 30,000 troops in early 2010. A couple mounth ago, US also organize Al-Khanjar Operation but the result is not satisfying and dozen US troops have been killed at the operation.

The operation has aim to cut Taliban Supply line in Southern Afghanistan.US-led coalition troops push Taliban behind line in North.

This operation is named as the Cobra anger. I do not know the Cobra could bite Taliban or Taliban will kick the Cobra? Time will answer it.

Does my code suck?
[info]meesto
I have a bunch of files which need to be cleaned of some Mac specific OS file parts and don't want to deal with the hassle of manually encoding them all. I have a little script I wrote and I want to make certain I am not mad or making any huge errors. This is to be run using bash on Apache.

Are there any code people who might look at this and tell me if it will cause serious problems?

#!/bin/bash

# init
function pause(){
     read -p "$*"
}

for f in `ls multipart/`
do
  if [[ "$f" == *.zip ]]
  then
    echo "Processing $f file..."
    mv multipart/$f multipart/__temp/ # Move zip file to temp dir.
    unzip multipart/__temp/*.zip         # Unzip archive.
    rm multipart/__temp/*.zip # Remove the old zip archive.
    rm multipart/__temp/._*.mp3 # Remove the Apple "._" files.
    zip -r multipart/__temp/$f *.mp3     # Zip the mp3 files to a new archive.
    mv multipart/__temp/$f multipart/ # Move the new archive back.
    rm multipart/__temp/* # Remove any other temp files.
    pause 'Press any key to continue...'
  fi
done
It's a huge hack and one of the more ambitious shell scripts I've built.

I'm not united. I never was. How about you?
[info]sadie_sabot
This morning I told Natasha that Obama was sending 30, 000 more soldiers to Afghanistan. Natasha said, But wasn’t he against he war? We had some interesting conversation, and I talked about how even though we knew Obama thought the Afghanistan war was ok, he had been opposed to the Iraq war, and he was still better than McCain and no different than Clinton on war issues. Then Natasha said, “I wish I’d told you to vote for the other person who was anti-war…the one was was a woman AND African American?” “Oh, yes,” I said, “Cynthia McKinney would not have made war, that’s true.” I really appreciate how my kid keeps looking for other options, other avenues, other alternatives. There I was, saying, well, what Obama is doing sucks but he was the best option, and Natasha was able to remind me that no, there was actually another option, as there always is.

Whenever you are told THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE, you know someone is trying to get you to shut up and fall in line. There is always another alternative. ALWAYS. When they say “there is no alternative,” what they are saying is, we like this alternative, we are committed to this world view, this hegemony, and we want you to stop thinking about other options, other approaches. They want you to stop thinking creatively, to accept their worldview as the only option, stop resisting and stop trying to build alternatives.

At the end of Obama’s speech he said this:

It is easy to forget that when this war began, we were united - bound together by the fresh memory of a horrific attack, and by the determination to defend our homeland and the values we hold dear. I refuse to accept the notion that we cannot summon that unity again.

I remember that time, and I can tell you, I was not united. I was pissed and horrified. I was protesting outside of the ICE offices as hundreds of arab and muslim men were rounded up just for being arab and muslim. I remember my horror at hearing about how the daisy cutter bombs and the food aid packages looked the same, meaning kids running for food were getting blasted to bits. I remember that most of the people in my community were opposed to making war on Afghanistan. I remember the analysis coming from RAWA and other radical women of color, and the ways the US war makers used women’s rights as a cudgel to beat people into line on this war.

I know that I never once believed that making war on Afghanistan had anything to do with defending our homeland and I still don’t. I never thought the Afghanistan war was ‘the good war,” and I don’t believe in “good wars.”

Obama is attempting to rewrite history by pretending there was no opposition to this war then as a way of undermining opposition now. There has always been opposition to this war. To the extent that there was unity among the lawmakers, it came from ugly reactions to fear and a desire for vengeance, and it’s sad to see Obama embrace that.

Were you united with George Bush and the warmakers and imperialists as the war on the people of Afghanistan began? If not, tell me what you can remember from that time, what you did to express your opposition, not just to the war but to the “war on terror” in it’s manifestations at that time. It was 8 years ago. We can surely own our own history.

Obama Orders Afghanistan Surge - IslamOnline.net - News

Professor Vanda Felbab-Brown from Brookings Institute worry the United States will able to secure Afghanistan. Increasing number in US troops does not guarantee the Afghanistan secure. If US deploy on Helmand, Kandahar and East Afghanistan, will US defeat Afghanistan in 18 months. Some Taliban may counter attack Taliban in North or Western Afghanistan.
